E-commerce website design, WooCommerce & Shopify

Online shops made to move.

Spider Studios designs and builds thoughtful e-commerce websites for ambitious businesses in Carmarthenshire, across Wales and throughout the UK—giving customers a clear, confident path from discovery to checkout.

The right platform for the way you sell.

The best e-commerce platform is the one that fits your business, catalogue and team—not the one with the loudest marketing. We start by understanding what you sell, how customers find it, the choices they need to make and what needs to happen after an order is placed.

WooCommerce is a strong fit when your shop needs the flexibility of WordPress alongside rich editorial content, tailored product options and room to grow. It is particularly useful for product-led brands that want their shop, story and search presence to work as one considered experience.

Shopify is often the better route when a hosted commerce platform, streamlined store operations and its established commerce ecosystem match the business. Spider Studios has used Shopify as part of The BMJ’s wider OnExamination medical-revision product journey, bringing the storefront into a clear route across public website, purchase and app experience.

From a compact first collection to a varied catalogue with sizes, variations, seasonal releases and delivery rules, the build is shaped around the operational reality of selling online—not a generic template.

The purchase journey

01 / Discover

Make collections, categories, search and product storytelling easy to understand—so the right item is never hard to find.

02 / Decide

Give product pages the detail, imagery and options customers need to buy with confidence, without making the decision feel like work.

03 / Complete

Design a calm, secure checkout with clear delivery, payment and order information, then test the details that can lose a sale.

Featured e-commerce work

Black Mountain Creations: a Welsh shop with room to breathe.

For Black Mountain Creations, we created a responsive WordPress and WooCommerce shop for Welsh art, prints and gifts. The catalogue brings together wall art, greetings cards and seasonal collections, with product categories, search, product variations, basket and checkout designed around a simple journey to purchase.

The project also demonstrates the care we bring to performance, accessibility and SEO foundations: a Lighthouse audit of the live homepage recorded 99 for performance and 100 for accessibility, best practices and SEO. Scores vary by test conditions, but the result is useful evidence of the attention paid to a fast, stable customer experience.

Speed & search foundations

Built for browsing quickly and being understood clearly.

Speed, accessibility and search visibility are not a finishing layer. They influence how confidently people browse, how easily they can complete a purchase and how clearly search engines can understand the shop. We build these principles into the work from the outset.

E-commerce questions

Things worth knowing before launch.

Should I use WooCommerce or Shopify?

WooCommerce is particularly good when the shop needs to sit alongside a content-rich WordPress website and benefit from flexible product options. Shopify can be the better choice when a hosted commerce platform and its established store ecosystem suit the operation. We assess the catalogue, fulfilment needs, team workflow and future plans before recommending a route.

Do you have Shopify experience?

Yes. Spider Studios worked on the Shopify e-commerce journey within The BMJ’s OnExamination medical-revision platform, helping create a clear route between the public website, purchase journey and accompanying app.

Can you help us organise a large or varied product catalogue?

Yes. Product categories, collections, filters, search, variations and individual product-page content are all part of the planning. The goal is to make a varied catalogue feel straightforward for both customers and the people maintaining it.

What do you consider in the checkout experience?

We look at the customer journey from basket through delivery, payment and confirmation. That includes clarity around choices and costs, secure payment options, mobile usability and the practical handover of order information to your team.

Will the site be set up for SEO and speed?

We include sensible technical foundations: clear structure, meaningful page and product content, accessible markup, thoughtful image handling and a performance-conscious build. No responsible studio can promise a fixed rank or audit score, but these foundations give the shop a much stronger starting point.
